Paper Pixel

In my 1st semester at Carnegie Mellon University I took the class: Making Things Interactive. The class was an introductory level course that taught students how to create mobile applications and work with Arduino. Paper Pixel was the last project I did for this class. Paper Pixel was a series of origami pieces that were actuated by physical touch.

For the project I utilized a combination of an Arduino, capacitive sensor, and SMA (Shape Memory Alloy). The final product did not work as well as the individual prototypes, primarily due to the fact that the SMA I was using required a large amount of electrical current to heat up and contract. At that time I could not provide enough power to the assembly. Below are videos and images of the project.
